Shadow the Artist is the solo project of songwriter, producer and vocalist Michelle Breeze. Currently based in London, Breeze grew up in Cape Town, South Africa - developing her vocal style and songwriting in the South African alternative rock scene of the late 1990s and 2000s.
Shadow the Artist is an alchemy of Breeze's musical influences, history and confessional songwriting. Drawing on trip hop, dark wave, alternative, emo and dark pop textures, the songs are driven by her desire to explore the shadow side.
Breeze fronted alternative rock band Fetish from 1996-2012. After relocating to London, Breeze featured on Kano's singles 'Upside' and ‘Slaves’ where she worked with producer and songwriter Craigie Dodds. They later released 'Demos' under the name Why Why Peaches. Breeze has also collaborated on electronic and dance music. She co wrote and performed South African top 10 hit 'Paper Skies' by Pascal & Pearce and prior to that on 'Deeper Water' by PMT which featured on a Global Underground compilation.
